Fallout 4 is a post-nuclear apocalyptic action game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth major sequel to the Fallout series, and has been released worldwide on November 10, 2015, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set within an open world post-apocalyptic environment that encompasses the city of Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts region known as "The Commonwealth." The main story takes place in 2287, ten years after the events of 3 and 210 years after the "Great War," which caused catastrophic nuclear devastation throughout the United States.
The player takes control of a character called "The Only Survivor," who emerges from a long-standing cryogenic curtain at Vault 111, an underground nuclear shelter. After witnessing the murder of his spouse and the abduction of their son, the Only Survivor goes to the community to search for their missing child. The player explores the game world of the game, completes various tasks, assists factions, and gains experience points to raise and increase his character's abilities. New features in this series include the ability to develop and manage settlements and an extensive craft system where environmentally dumped materials can be used to make explosives, upgrade weapons and armor, and build, equip, and improve settlements. Fallout 4 also marks the first game in the series that has a full cast that plays the protagonist.
