Apex Legends is a free game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 4, 2019, without notice or marketing.
The Apex game blends elements from a variety of video games, including Respawn's own Titanfall series, Battle Royale games, shooter classes, and those with evolution. Approximately sixty players are pitted against each other on the island in three, with one player controlling the landing site. The squad must then find weapons and other resources to combat other formations, during which the pitch is gradually reduced to size until one team remains, thus ending the match. The game also includes care packages and the ability to revive your teammates within a set amount of time. Communication with team members can be done via voice chat or a ping system, which allows teammates to easily tag stocks, locations and enemies. Nine heroes can be selected in the game (though three are locked by default) and have a microtransaction system for cosmetics.
The concept of this game came true during the development of the new Titanfall game, after EA took over Respawn in 2017. The unexpected success of the battle royale genre has prompted developers to create one of their own that will feature elements of the series, in addition to concepts seen in games over the past decade. After the announcement, developers announced plans to play on multiple platforms.
Apex Legends received very positive reviews from critics who praised its gameplay, progressive system and fusion of elements from different genres. He was considered by some to be a worthy competitor to Fortnite Battle Royale, a similar game that gained immense popularity in the previous year. The game surpassed over 25 million players by the end of the first week, and 50 million in the first month.
